Expansion Plans Submitted for Chandigarh's IAF Heritage Centre

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has submitted a proposal to the UT Administration for the expansion of the first Indian Air Force Heritage Centre in Sector 18, Chandigarh. The second phase aims to develop the centre into the Indian Air Force Aerospace and Technical Centre, featuring advanced technology-driven features to inspire young individuals to join the Air Force.

During a meeting chaired by UT Adviser Dharam Pal, IAF officers presented a detailed plan for the expansion. The new wing, covering an area of approximately 13,000 sq ft, will house displays of technology-based and electronic systems, simulators, and aero engines. The project has already been approved by the IAF authorities.

Construction work on the project is expected to commence within two weeks and is anticipated to be completed in six months. The UT Administration and IAF authorities will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in approximately a week.

The first phase of the Heritage Centre, inaugurated by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on May 8, has received a positive response, with around 22,500 visitors since its opening. The initial phase, spread across a 15,000 sq ft hall, focuses on the history and legends of the IAF. The GNAT aircraft were displayed as part of Phase 1 outside the centre. The IAF has already handed over Phase 1 to the UT Tourism Department.
